Not lazy and not lame. Late. Just late. And only by a day, so I’m giving myself a pass.

Yesterday was the official L-day for the A – Z Blogging Challenge and today is M-day. I may stay one day late on this blog for a while because I’m keeping up with the challenge religiously on my other, more serious blog (Langley Writes About Writing). I’ve got nice readers there that expect me to say something meaningful or helpful. Here, it’s basically musings, thoughts, random ‘eurekas.’

Another reason I’m behind is because I’m onto a new craft project. When an idea hits me, I tend to jump in obsessively. I can’t make time for other things like blog posts, laundry or grocery shopping. For now, I’ve got nothing to share on that. Along with my obsessiveness I also have to have it perfect before the reveal.

Many years ago I had a friend who’s license plate said “:15 minutes.” When asked why, he answered “it takes me :15 minutes to get anywhere in town and I’m always :15 minutes late.” It was true, he was notoriously late to everything.

So here I am, late for this blog post. I’m keeping on because I don’t want to abandon the goal of getting through the entire alphabet.

For those of you stopping by via the A – Z Blogging Challenge, what are your best tips and tricks? What keeps you on course?

Creativity, Desire and Enthusiasm (C, D and E) April 6, 2011

Woefully behind in the A-Z Blogging Challenge here. I wonder if that’s going to be a recurring theme this month? In a blinding flash of gusto I entered 2 blogs into the challenge – this blog and Langley Writes About Writing. As the name indicates, my other blog is a niche blog. This one is a random catch-all. I have not missed a single day of posting for the A-Z Blogging Challenge on the other blog. You can see for yourself how I’m doing here. Okay, enough with the preamble. Let me write a three-fer post including the letters C, D & E.

Creativity, Desire and Enthusiasm

My first thought is to write about the importance of creativity, desire and enthusiasm. I’ll go with that because it’s good. In fact, I’d go so far as to say that whatever goals or ambitions you have, if you channel creativity, desire and enthusiasm into the pursuit you cannot fail. That’s a lethal combination that will never go wrong. Think about the strength in these three words –

Creativity: the ability to use the imagination to develop new and original ideas

Desire: to want something very strongly

Enthusiasm: passionate interest in or eagerness to do something

Okay, I’m convinced. I’m going to throw more creativity, desire and enthusiasm into this blog. I think I wrote this post for myself. Maybe it helped you too?

Thank you A-Z Blogging Challenge.

A is for Absent / B is for Birthday April 3, 2011

In an effort to catch up on the A – Z Blog Challenge I’m combining A & B into one post on this blog. To further stretch the rules, I’m doing this combo-post on the wrong day. It’s a good thing the A – Z  challenge doesn’t have strict rules or I’d be kicked out for sure. In any case, the A & B combo-post will explain…

I was Absent on the A day because we went to my dad’s 75th Birthday party. Because we had to travel to get to his party, I was also Absent on the B day.

My family congregated in Charlotte for the festivities and we all had a big time. It strikes me that this is the second post I’ve written about family festivities and birthday parties. 2 out of 6. In case you are wondering, yeah, we like to celebrate. As a family, we’re always looking for a reason to get together and lift a glass. Hey, maybe that will be my C post – about celebrations! It’s hard to believe my dad is 75. He is a perennial child, in a good way. As I look back on some of my poems and articles it’s interesting to note how many times I’ve written about my dad. I’m going to link 2 of my favorites in case you want to know more about him.

On Being Raised by a Boy Scout

A Father’s Day Poem for Dad

I am blogging for the A – Z challenge on my Langley Writes about Writing blog, which is on Blogger. Since I know how to schedule posts there, I’m in compliance. Here on WordPress, I have no idea. We all know I’m a blogging newbie. One of the reasons I signed up for this challenge is to learn more about blogging in general. Maybe I’ll learn how to schedule a post here too, before this is all over! Let’s raise a glass to wishing!

Happy Birthday Dad! We love you!

The A to Z Blogging Challenge March 28, 2011

I’m writing about this here and on my other blog for two reasons. 1) I am excited about it and 2) I’ve entered both blogs.

An online writing buddy, Marie Anne, stumbled onto The A to Z Blogging Challenge and threw down the gauntlet. Many people joined the challenge to ramp up their blogging frequency. I’m just learning how to blog, so figuring out the frequency hasn’t hit my radar yet. But so many interesting people have signed up, and it looks like an ideal time for me to learn from cool and seasoned bloggers so…. yeah. I’m going for it.

Here’s the way it works: there are 26 letters in the alphabet and there are 26 days in April (excluding Sundays). The challenge is to blog Monday – Saturday. The blog post must correspond to the letter in the alphabet that falls on that day (i.e., April 1 = A, April 2 = B, etc.). This requires a 6-day per week blog post commitment during the entire month.

I am goal-oriented so this will work for me. Since I blog here and at Langley Writes About Writing, I will post on one or the other. On ambitious days I may post to both. I am 100% committed to posting to at least one of the blogs daily, for the duration of the challenge. It’s going to be fun and entertaining, my head’s already full of whacky ideas.

If you’re a blogger and want to join in, there’s a button on the other blog. I’d include it here too IF I knew how. See how much I have to learn! Right here in public!

So I hope you’ll follow along or join in.

And if you can think of an interesting blog post that starts with the letter Q, X or Z, I’m all ears.
